Hedi Slimane presented a stellar Fall-Winter 2019 runway show for Celine back in March, one that was the very definition of what a French bourgeois woman would have worn in the mid-70s/early-80s. In all honesty, it wasn’t the kind of #OldCeline that fans of the brand clamoured for, but rather, an even earlier Celine aesthetic that existed way before Michael Kors (Phoebe Philo’s predecessor) was tasked to present his modern take on the French luxury house. In fact, the collection saw the return of several classic house codes like the Celine Chain motif seen on the chic scarves and dresses, along with numerous RTW looks that were clearly inspired from Celine’s vintage archives.
As for the leather goods, the eyebrow-raising horsebit shoulder bags may have stolen the show for some, but no official word (nor an official name) has been given to it, and questions remain if it will ever make it into production. What’s available, however, is an updated iteration of a popular bag silhouette, the Nano Luggage, rendered in a similar colour tone and material choice that’s very much in line with the theme of Celine’s Fall-Winter 2019 runway show.
Measuring just 20 cm by 20 cm, the Nano Luggage remains a popular choice for ladies looking for a bag that’s not only easy on the eye, but one that’s functional to boot. The boxy-shaped bag comes with a depth of 10 cm and will hold a good day’s (or night’s) worth of essentials, all of which can be secured shut via the top zipped closure. With two top handles, you can carry the Nano Luggage easily like a chic handbag, or simply attach the removable leather strap (drop length of 58 cm) and sling it over the shoulder or across the body for a hands-free look.
Not only is the bi-material combination a fresh addition to the current range of Luggage bags (currently available in single-toned calfskin or laminated lambskin options), it’s also lighter than its full-leather siblings, thanks to the combination of wool (tweed panels on the exterior) and leather (handles, trim and lining). Priced at SGD2550, the Nano Luggage in tweed and smooth calfskin will be available in boutiques real soon, so it’s best you leave your name at either Marina Bay Sands or Takashimaya Shopping Centre to be informed the moment it arrives.
