Longchamp x Nendo Circle Bag

This is a curious one. A really curious one. This Le Pliage line was inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami (‘Pliage’ in French literally translates to ‘fold’ in English), one that’s finally come full circle with a capsule collection reinterpreted by Tokyo-based design studio, Nendo. To be officially launched worldwide in July (Singapore will get first dibs at Longchamp Takashimaya Department Store on 1 July 2019), the Le Pliage line has always been about form and function, but Nendo has taken it a step up, with the Le Pliage bags in the capsule collection being able to transform into aesthetically-pleasing works of art that are also actually bags.

In total, there are 3 designs to keep an eye out for, such as the Cube which doubles up as a roomy storage box, or the Cone that’s shaped exactly like a cone, but more importantly, can be transformed and carried (and used) like bags as well.

The third design is the Circle Bag above which comes in two sizes, in Small or Large. The circular piece draws inspiration from a traditional Japanese technique called furoshiki that’s all about folding cloths to hold and transport objects, which was popular in Japan before Western-style bags came to fashion. Now, using the bag is rather straightforward. First, lay it flat on any surface and place your essentials right in the middle. Next, simply fold one half onto the other side (you’ll be left with a half moon shape), snap the clasp button and you will have a fun and handy bag that you can take with you on your daily adventures. Small measures 60 cm across (in diameter) when it’s fully opened, while Large is slightly bigger at 85 cm.

The best part about the collection? They don’t come in prices that break the bank, starting from SGD105 and going up to SGD390 for the bags in nylon. Excited to find out more? The Longchamp x Nendo collection will be available in Singapore soon, coming in solid neutrals like Burgundy, Dark Blue, Mustard and Pale Grey that’s finished with either black or white leather trims.
