Eating a plant-based diet can be cheaper or more expensive depending on where you go. If you find it tough to make a transition to a plant-based diet, vegan foods that use mock meats to recreate common dishes are a great place to start. One yummy and wallet-friendly example is the $9.90 tea-time set at Well-Dressed Salad Bar & Cafe.
The set includes a choice of main from tacos, salad, pita pockets and nachos, accompanied with a drink or dessert. Read on to find out more about the menu.

Beyond Meat tacos
This dish with Beyond Meat pieces wrapped in a soft-shell taco is perfect for meat-lovers. The taste and texture is so similar to real meat, it’s hard to tell that this is made of plant protein.
Paired with tomatoes and pickled purple cabbage inspired by sauerkraut, the savoury meat chunks are well balanced by the vegetables’ freshness. The three tacos make a substantial meal, or an easy sharing plate.

The vegan nachos are sprinkled with chia seeds for a little superfood kick. The fresh tomato salsa and avocado combination made the nachos taste light and fresh, instead of the usual heaviness that accompanies the dish.

The cakes served here are homemade by the chef and owner. While they are not completely sugar-free, they contain vegan sugar in small amounts – significantly less than what commercial bakeries use.
I tried the Matcha Lime and the Chocolate cake, the latter definitely being my favourite.

Other dishes available at the café
Besides the aforementioned items that are part of the tea-time menu, Well-Dressed Salad Bar & Cafe offers many other dishes including hearty wraps, large salads and shareable platters.
Most items are made in-house, from the feta cheese tofu to the nacho and salad dressings. Even their tomatoes are freshly chopped and prepared, not poured out of a can.
The owner believes that eating a healthier and greener diet is about finding dishes that suit your lifestyle instead of going to the extreme. This is why most of the dishes here are fun and healthier takes on popular comfort food.
Well-Dressed Salad Bar & Cafe is located at 282 South Bridge Road (tel: 6534-7787). Their tea-time promotion is available daily from 3pm to 5pm.
