Taking advantage of the public holidays and long weekends this year with a drive to Malaysia? Follow these tips to stay healthy.
Driving to Malaysia makes for a fun and cheap trip, but sitting for hours in the car can take a toll on your body, especially if you’re stuck in a jam.
For many, having a flattened bottom is a big concern, but that is just a myth. Aches and pains are a reality, though. Stop yourself from feeling sore and stressed by following these health tips on holiday.

Work out before travelling
Exercising before your journey will help you feel invigorated and energised. Your workout will already be taken care of, taking one thing off your mind. Be sure to keep the intensity at a manageable level as you won’t want to feel muscle aches during your car ride.

Dress appropriately
Like any trip, choosing the right set of clothing for your long drive is essential. The car environment is usually cold and dry, so warm and soft fabrics are your best bet. Although skinny jeans and leggings are comfortable, it might not be advisable to wear them when you’re seated for long hours as doing so- might slow down circulation.

Stretch well
Before embarking on your trip, put in time for a good 10 to 20-minute stretch. Not only will this stretch out muscles that you used during your workout, but it will also relax them to prevent cramps during your ride.
Stretching in the car is hard to do for the driver, but for passengers, keep your body moving with light stretches. Ankle rotations and upper body stretches will help your circulation and prevent your body from stiffening up. If you want a deeper stretch, make a pit stop and do a full body stretch.

Take care of your skin
The aircon in the car makes the air dry, making moisturising even more important. Prevent scaly skin and cracked lips by ensuring that your body is well hydrated. Sun protection should not be forgotten because the car windows do not block out UVB rays, the rays that age your skin and cause wrinkles.

Don’t stress about food
You’re on holiday, so it’s okay to let yourself indulge a little. Do not go crazy and make every meal a cheat meal, but you can try new food and have your favourite goodies in moderation. Before your trip, try eating healthier to allow yourself to eat more during your holiday. However, it is important not to under-eat or starve yourself or you might end up bingeing during your trip.

Keep moving
Diet and exercise should be a part of your lifestyle, not a one-time crash course whenever you are prepping for something important. Having a healthy lifestyle includes balance, which means you don’t have to fret if you are unable to hit the gym every single day. Walk when you can and do quick home exercises when you’re looking to work out. It’s definitely possible to take 10 minutes of your day to move.
