2 / 8Find something that feels fun Not all your workouts have to follow a set routine. Switch things up once in awhile, do something that gets your heart racing like an adventure course, rock climbing or trampolining, go for a different class, or try out a new gym and all its fancy facilities.

3 / 8Set challenges for yourself Challenges are fun and you can use them to get in better shape. Challenge yourself to run an extra kilometre, burn more calories than usual, or speed up your usual activities. You could try to outrun the person next to you, or challenge your workout buddy to see who can burn more calories in five minutes.

4 / 8Try out new equipment Grab an instructor at the gym and get him or her to give you a quick demo on how to use equipment you’ve never tried before. It may be just the thing to work on neglected parts of your body. Plus, you’ll get to widen your repertoire.

5 / 8Work out like your fitness idol Don’t do this without consulting an expert first, but if you get the go-ahead, you could try working out like your favourite fitspo idol for a week or month and see if you get the same results!

6 / 8Keep your workouts short but consistent If you’re really not feeling like exercising, give yourself a break and shorten your workouts for a while, but in exchange for this concession, be sure to exercise consistently to keep your fitness levels up.

7 / 8Get new clothes, gear and shoes Whenever you’re going through a dull period, treat yourself to a new outfit to get yourself back in the gym. Nothing quite inspires a workout as much as getting to pull on new clothes and shoes or using a new yoga mat.

8 / 8Do something outdoors Going to the gym definitely signals that it’s exercise time. To make your workout feel less strenuous, it might be a good idea to head outdoors. Try cycling around a new district, go sailing, snorkelling or kayaking, or play ball with your pals to get in a workout without it being a chore.
