Doing yoga body locks (or Bandhas) has more benefits than just helping you get into certain poses more easily.
Yoga Bandhas are also known as body locks because they contract the abdomen to lock certain body parts in place.
Using the muscles in specific areas of your body, you can lift different parts against the natural laws of gravity. Basically, you are lifting and engaging areas that are fall downward naturally.

Better mind to muscle connection
As you’re moving your body in a way that you do not usually move, you might find it hard to find the proper engagement at first. But it will get easier with practice as you improve your mind to muscle connection.
You will be able to lift your lower abs, upper abs, chest and collarbones separately with no struggle once you learn how to isolate the muscles. This will then help you in other activities besides yoga.

Stronger core engagement
There are three major Bandhas, the Mula Bandha (pelvic floor), Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal) and Jalandhara Bandha (throat). Though they focus on different parts, they all require the use of your core.
Bandhas usually require you to pull your belly to your spine, tighten your abdomen and lift it closer to your chest. When you first do it, you might notice that you flare out your chest and lose some engagement in your core. However, after some practice you’ll be able to tighten your whole midsection for maximum engagement.

Increased back and ab stability
When you activate your core, your back is sometimes forgotten. But when you are using your entire middle section, your back muscles contract and start to work too. Bandhas are hence a great way to get stability as they utilise your core and back to create a strong base.
This also means that you will be taking the pressure off other joints when you do yoga poses such as arm balances. Your core and back engagement helps to lift your body up, making it easier to bear your weight on your arms.

Calming effect
Bringing your body up and together releases tension in tight areas, and a relaxed body leads to a relaxed mind. The abdominal contractions also help to calm your nervous system.
Physical aspects aside, Bandhas also benefit you mentally. The oneness helps you to focus as you feel stable and centred. Your brain is thus relaxed whenever you practice Bandhas and continue normal breathing.
