In support of local sporting talent, the Eurasian Association (EA) alongside Singapore’s first Olympic gold medallist Joseph Schooling officially awarded the ‘Joseph Schooling Sports Grant’ to its first recipient, 18-year old Eurasian Tia Louise Rozario.
Accompanied by his parents Colin and May Schooling at The Eurasian Association Community House, Joseph presented SGD 5,000 grant that will assist Tia in developing and launching her sporting career and achieving her dreams on the track. Tia was one out of three impressive and outstanding candidates that were shortlisted for the Grant interview.
18-year old Tia Louise Rozario is a track and field athlete from the Singapore Sports School and was inspired by the sacrifices Joseph Schooling had made to develop his talent. Having made a name for herself, the young sporting talent has won six gold medals with a record of 15.17 seconds for sprint hurdles at the National School Track & Field Championship. Dominating the hurdling crown, Tia has completed her nine-year streak at being at the top.
This year is significant for the Eurasian Association as they celebrate their 100th anniversary in Singapore. The centennial celebrations aim to create a sense of belonging among Eurasians young and old and simultaneously raise awareness about Eurasian heritage, culture and achievements. The Eurasian Association’s centennial celebrations have kick-started this year and will end on 31st December 2019.
To mark its 100th anniversary in Singapore, the Eurasian Association will also be launching an official coffee table book. Set to be launched in October 2019, the book aims to capture the history of the Eurasian Association from 1919 to 2019, the Eurasian Association’s milestones against the backdrop of Singapore’s progress and how the Eurasian Association has contributed to the Singapore community through its key pillars of education and welfare.
To expand the collection of oral history from the Eurasian community, the Eurasian Association has partnered with the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) on a unique oral history project. Volunteers, including local radio veteran Brian Richmond, will be interviewing members of the Eurasian community to capture their memories and record significant stories of the past. This exercise will help Eurasians to recall how the Eurasian community has lived in the past, and instil a great sense of pride in all Eurasians young and old.
