What’s Australia without its kangaroos? Frankly, I was quite fearful of trying the dish as it was my maiden taste of kangaroo meat.

PepperedKangaroo Loin (S$34) is the star of the restaurant and was served medium-rare—as recommended by staff at the restaurant—as the meat is relatively lean. This homey dish of kangaroo meat is accompanied with mashed sweet potato, rocket (arugula), beet relish and garlic aioli.

Much to my surprise, the kangaroo meat served at Boomarang Bistro & Bar had a taste so similar to that of beef, it was indistinguishable. If I were at a blind taste test, I would have mistaken it for beef.

Though it was slightly tougher to slice into, the meat was well-seasoned and surprisingly tender. It was so easy to chew on that I wondered if the knife provided could be sharper.

Alongside the meat was the aioli sauce; a Mediterranean sauce made of garlic and olive oil. This smooth barbeque-like sauce enhanced the smoky flavour of the grilled meat.

Served up in the exact same way as Australia, this kangaroo meat dish included a sweet and tangy beetroot relish that gave some crunch to the dish, and was accompanied by the rocket greens. The sweet potato mash tied the whole dish up and made it great as comfort food.

Another favourite is Boomarang’s fresh Cajun Salmon(S$32) – a 200g fillet. Customers may enjoy an extra ‘Surf & Turf’ twist to the dish with added grilled prawns/cutlets (S$7).

The dish consisted of grilled salmon, boiled broccoli and carrots, and grilled prawns, creating a good pairing of fresh and smoky flavours. The dish’s main ingredient—the salmon—was grilled well, making it easy to tear apart both when cutting and chewing.

As for the skewered prawns, it was firm yet easy to bite into with a slight bit of crunch. Perfectly grilled! The dish also included a generous serving of peppery sauce to complement the salmon and prawns.

We also ordered their house-made Mango Smoothie (S$10) for a taste of their drinks.

It was slightly disappointing for me because the yoghurt overpowered the mango flavour. However, if you’re into more tropical yoghurt drinks, this would probably be a good choice.

With the quality and authentic Australian dishes, accompanied by live sports games, Boomarang Bistro & Bar is definitely the go-to place for a true Down-Under experience. Do come down with your friends and family or even a dinner date for a true-blue Aussie meal.

Pssst, Wednesdays are Beer & Burger promo nights, from 5pm – 10pm—so make a trip down to the river for a good time!
